Pastor Eric Givens
Pastor Eric B. Givens, Sr.
Born January 13, 1965 in Memphis, TN to the Late James Givens and Minerva Givens, Eric Bernard Givens was the last to be birthed of 7 children. He spent his early childhood and teenage years as a resident of South Memphis. He confessed an early hope in Christ and was baptized at the age of 6 and brought up in the Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church where his father was a deacon and his mother was and is still a faithful mother and usher. Eric Givens graduated high school from Carver High in the spring of 1984 where he played the saxophone in the band. He went on to further his education at the Memphis State University and Crichton College.
On May 10, 1986, after a 5 year courtship, Eric was united in Holy Matrimony with his high school sweetheart Countess Yvette Dickerson. After 25 years of marriage and 30 years of a partnership, Eric and Countess still hold true and faithful to the God ordained covenant between man and woman. God has blessed them with 3 beautiful and loving children: Eric Bernard Jr., Countess La’Vette, and Erica Nicole.
Eric Givens was called into the ministry and preached his initial sermon in November of 1990, at the age of 25. He was ordained in 1994. Before God appointed him to be pastor of a church, he served as assistant\youth pastor at his home church. He held great responsibilities during this time as God was grooming him for his divine call of leadership. In October of 1996, God assigned Reverend Givens to be the next pastor of the Second Baptist Missionary Church in Coldwater, MS. On Sunday November 20, 2011, the church celebrated its 15th year of pastor and people. During his 15 year tenure, God has shown Pastor Givens much favor and grace in carrying out the will and call that has been placed on his life and he has accomplished a lot of great things (reference church history page).
In 2000, after many years of being an employee with I. Rosen’s of Memphis, TN, God allowed Eric Givens to become the proud owner and founder of E. Given’s Clothiers located at the corner of Riverdale and Winchester in East Memphis (www.egivens.com).
While pastoring is his divine duty, he has remained bi-vocational with the strength and guidance of the Lord. Some of pastor’s interests and favorites are: Pittsburgh Steelers, golf, jazz, comedy, family, tailoring, fine dining, and vacationing. His most favorite thing to do is preaching and teaching the word of GOD!
